The ascent of Stan
Textbook hippie man
Get rest while you can

So where'd the years go?
All the time we had?
Being poor was not such a drag in hindsight
And you wonder why your father was so resigned
Now you don't wonder any more

Now that's just plain cool....

Great job! I can't stand it when people make shose abstract objects in whatever program they use and it doesn't ever look like anything more than that. I really like how you made the object look like it's real, a giant structure in a room and placed the guy down there. Really nice work....

Truly stunning! Gripping, intruiging, thought-provoking, and unique.

I am in awe. I must've stared at this for 5 minutes before I could even think of anything to comment.

This made my mind absolutely race with stories... reasons, plots, explanations, anything I could grasp. I love pieces that make me think. And this, certainly, made me think.

What a wonderful work of art. It definetly deserved DD. Congrats, my friend, and an absolutely stunning job.

I wouldn't really mind if you actually gave some credit to the person you got inspired from... but anyways, I'm not going to bitch and bicker about it.
It looks like you could of used more segments on the background object, also making the shadow better quality wouldn't hurt. There are some minor issues here like contrast and other elements. Next time.. just give a little credit, it's amazingly annoying.

I see where you coming from, so i will apologise to you nd say am sorry for not giving you credit. Had time to think about it last night and thought that i have been abit big headed/arrogant so again sorry and i've put in that i was inspired by you in the description. Hope thats kewl. Anyway thanks for you crit I'm not too good with c4d thats why some of the contrast/shadow quality things like that arnt too good, but i'll play aroun with some of the settings see if i can get it looking abit better. I also noticed that the shadow of the guy is the wrong way round it should be fading out away from his feet not the other way round lol. Well any way thanks for your comment n again sorry mate

Yes, a little credit at the least would be nice. But I'm sure he will respond that he had no inspiration from you what so ever. :hmm:

I'm going to take this opportunity to go off here, cause I can’t take the crap any more.

jiov - Dude, your fifteen. You have not been alive long enough to know what you are talking about. The extent of your formal art training has probably been one or two hours a week with a public school teacher. Don't presume to lecture on the finer points of inspiration vs. ripping off.

First, you’re a hypocrite. [link] is made from stock. Where’s the credit? This is directly using someone else’s stuff, even if stock, without acknowledging the original artist. Thief.

Second, even he was inspired by this [link] , who gives a crap? Real artists are inspired by all kinds of things around them every day. I would be impossible to give credit every time you found an idea somewhere. It's entirely possible he saw the original, or any of the thousands of "stretchy metal floating in space" abstracts you kiddies seem to love so much (Concept is getting really, really tired by the way) and sub-consciously put it together in his head. That's what artist do. Is it ripping off the Mona lisa every time someone paints a portrait? Is Helmut Newton rolling in his grave every time someone takes a picture of a woman in latex with a bullwhip? Do I owe someone a dollar because I took a picture of a tree? Shadapyouse….

Wow, just wow. I'm surprised that I'm going to take the time out of my life to reply to the ignorant comment you have just made.
I'm fifteen. Yes, and? Just because of my age you think that I am any different or any worse than any other artist on here? Sorry my friend, but you are wrong. I have never even taken a graphics course in my public school. There are far better ones that don't have to do with my local school, but thank you.
Secondly, bringing my work into this as if it makes the situation better. Of course I used a stock. It's obvious. I got the stock from stock.xchng, where I get every other stock that I have ever used in my life. No need to give credit to the web site, since I have gotten my stocks there for however long I have been designing, and people know that. If they don't, ask me. Grow up. Trying to make false accusations on my work isn't going to make the situation here any
Yes, inspiration is one thing. Every artist has it; it's what keeps us going. But, there is a fine line between inspiration and directly stealing and copying someone and his or her ideas. This was beyond inspiration, so don't try to let that sorry excuse fool you.

And that's exactly the response I expected from a fifteen year old.

"I'm surprised that I'm going to take the time out of my life to reply to the ignorant comment you have just made."
Good. Glad you found time to get away from your busy schedule. I'm taking care of a three and five year old, working a day job as a programmer and talking to you.

I'll just respond that the fact you have been taking stock from stock.xchng without giving credit for using it "however long I have been designing" doesn't mean its right. I'm not making false accusations on your work, just pointing out the hypocrisy of you ranting at someone for being inspired by by a piece of art while you are using someone else’s work without giving credit. I would in fact, expect you to be on the other side of the fence defending this piece.

No, it's not obvious you have been using stock by looking at it. The only clue I would have had is that the rest of your small gallery has nothing else like it.

"Just because of my age you think that I am any different or any worse than any other artist on here?"
Yes, I do. Not so much you art, which is pretty good, by the way, but the fact that you just have not been alive long enough to understand. I also fully acknowledge that you will not realize what I am talking about until you have a few more years under your belt. I know at 15 I was a god damn idiot, and every other 30+ year old I know thinks they were an idiot at 15. I'm sure you will to. The main difference is that you will get tired of bitching about every little thing and save your fights for things that actually matter.

In this case, the work has some obvious similarities, and many glaring differences. I can't find any elements directly lifted from the original, as in a direct copy and paste. This appears to me to be possibly inspired by the original, although it's entirely possible he never saw the original, and came up with a similar idea. Happens all the time.

Also, debating the quality of DD's on the DD receiver's image is a policy violation. You have beef with this choice, you take it up with me by note. Thank you.

"In any case, you'll actually find that the two works are very very different. Be mindful of any further response you make lest you incur an ettiquette violation."

Are you mad that he got a dd or mad at both the dd and the concept of this? It doesn't take a genious graphic designer to think of a concept like this, I've even thought of doing something like this without looking at either this or strukt's peice. It's called abstract art sitting in space, doesn't take a genious to think of it.

I just find it pathetic how much your arrogence is blinding you. It doesn't take a god damned genious to think of a concept like this. Get the fuck over it. Why do you find it so hard to believe that he thought of the idea without looking at strukt's peice? It's not even your fucking problem, so stop making it yours. Quit making art so competitive dude.

Look, even if it looks like he stole the idea, neither of us have any proof of whether or not he stole strukt's idea or not. He said he didn't so why is his word so hard to believe? I'm sure he would would tell us whether or not this was inspired by strukt or not, and he said it wasn't so seriously, fuck off for the time being. You're not proving anything to anyone but yourself.
